The federal program aims to provide a discount of around 30% on eligible batteries. Your actual discount depends on usable capacity, installation date and certificate value. It is not a guaranteed percentage for every system.

From 1 May 2026, support tapers by capacity. The May–December 2026 STC factor is 6.8; the published January–June 2027 factor is 5.7.

Eligible systems have 5–100 kWh nominal capacity, with certificates limited to the first 50 kWh of usable capacity. They must connect to eligible new or existing solar, use approved equipment and meet installation requirements. Only one battery system per premises can receive support. On-grid systems must be VPP-capable, but joining a VPP is optional.

Solar panel incentives

Eligible solar PV can receive support through small-scale technology certificates (STCs). A registered agent can exchange those certificates for an upfront discount. Solar and battery discounts should appear separately in your quote.

Eligible households may receive a solar PV rebate up to $1,400 and an optional matching interest-free loan. Approval must be received before installation; income, property, product and retailer conditions apply. The former Victorian battery loan is closed to new applications. Federal battery support is separate.
